Khoy city is the central city in west Azarbaijan province. Based on the census in 2011, the population of this city accrued to 309354 people, of which some 226760 people lived in urban areas and 127549 people lived in rural areas. West Azarbaijan province, inclusive of Lake Urmia covers an area of about 66043 square kilometers. The city of Khoy is located in the northwest of Iran in the Azarbaijan area, at the border of Turkey, covering a size of ۵۴۸٫۵ square kilometers.
